Hello again. I’ve made some changes to my web sites - including changing from hosting them right here on my own Linux Box to hosting them and 1and1.com web hosting. I’ve put up an online shopping cart system on internetforyachts.net (redirects to the actual cart page).

Ericsson W25 price has been reduced again. $700.00 - $50.00 = $650.00 right now. The shipping is a fixed price to US Addresses. $72.00.

AT&T is still doing the 5GB Limit on 3G Cellular Internet. Monitor your usage and switch to WiFi if you have such a system when that’s cheaper or free. I’d like to eventually see that 5GB limit abolished by the courts or by the FCC or some such entity. I think $900, $1500, $5000 Internet bills for US Cellular Internet overages is utterly rediculous. I will fight this stuff with every method I can. There are other news stories about this issue. There are people being affected that have nothing to do with yachting.

New and Renewal Consulting and Support Agreements - are $150.00 off in March. It was already a very good deal. Now it’s even better. I have yachts that renew every year. Some call or email rather often. It’s a good way to get help with computer or networking problems. Or pretty much anything that I have knowledge of. And even some things that I’d have to research for you. I’ll do it. It’s a good thing to have. It’s even a good gift idea for a yacht owner or captain.

If anyone has an project (either remote consultation, or onboard work) need - please get with me. I could certainly use the work. I know a lot of captains and crews are having a hard time. It’s been a tough year so far. But I’m not going anywhere. If you have computer work or laptop work that needs done please let me know. If you need to replace on board computers - I can help with that. I’ve done some very low profile … but quite powerful … Acer PC’s - which can fit almost anywhere. They are not much bigger than a laptop - but have modern processors of the Dual Pentium type - nice Megabytes of Memory and Hard Drive size. New SATA - Serial ATA hard drive. And the pricing is good as well.

The Ericsson W25 - that we sell a lot for use on sail and motor yachts - many do not realize can also be used for applications on land, such as to provide voice telephone and 3G Internet Service to remote locations.

Of recent note we have a company order for 6 Ericsson W25 just for such a deployment on land. We also have another call for 1 Ericsson W25 today for use on land / remote location.

So we do have customers catching on to the fact that there’s more use of the Ericsson W25 3G Cellular Voice and Internet Router (Fixed Cellular Terminal) besides just on board sail and motor yachts. Yes it does a good job on yachts, as one of our Sailing Yacht Customers has reported by email today and recently as well, but it also can do a great job for on land applications such as landline replacement - remote sites - and other mobile applications such as motor vehicles.

* Report from S/Y in the Bahamas - Ericsson W25 - 10 miles south of Nassau, Bahamas with 4 bars of signal. Also trouble report from yesterday and they called me for support under a consulting and tech support agreement. It seems they couldn’t get on the Internet although all indications seemed to point to the System (Ericsson W25) and the Service (BTC Bahamas) were working. The report today indicates a strangeness with a “?” question mark as part of the service provider displayed in the system.

Many thanks for your help yesterday and as you will construe from this message, today we are back in communication.

It seems that the local system was down yesterday and we did have one indicator that I did not consider important until today.  On the Ericson screen the service provider was ‘BTC@36439’.  Yesterday the service provider was ‘BTC?@36439’.  We shall watch out for question marks in future!!

At present we are sailing some ten miles south of Nassau and have a good signal with four bars.

Yachts have you seen this? It sure looks like the same Slimline ™ 5-LNB Dish that I have on land - it was required for me to receive the satellites (particularly the HD Satellites which for DirecTV are all switching to being only on their Ka Band Satellites.) It looks like a 3-axis tracking mechanism was made to steer this dish for the purpose of letting you get all of DirecTV at sea including the HD programming in one dish, in other words one Radome or Big White Dome. It’s not small so it may not go on some of the smaller vessels that couldn’t take 1-Meter + domes in the past. Also I’ve seen some discussion elsewhere that it may not work in all areas - particularly if you are in the fringe area of a satellite footprint. It’s  harder to get a clear view of 5 satellites than it is to just get 1 or 2. There may be issues with blockage zone where a mast or other part of the vessel could obstruct the view of the antenna. Anyway it does open up the possibility for more yachts to get HD + other channels on DirecTV at the same time without having to take up too much of critical arch or other superstructure area where dish antennas are installed. You could remove a previous TV dome in an area where this one would fit, and there yah go.

It looks like Cobham PLC and Seatel have worked together to produce this…
