Yachts - Encouraging Signs for Yacht Charter
8. May 2009 by admin.
http://megayachtnews.org/content/events/42-boatshows/1239-genoa-charter-show.html
Today is the last day of the 21st edition of the Genoa charter show, an industry-only event that draws the top charter brokers and charter journalists from around the world. Held at Marina Molo Vecchio, it showcased 65 yachts, a sell-out. Although it also attracted about 100 fewer brokers than last year, perhaps due to the economy, more important, it drew praise from several attendees, one of whom was Missy Johnston, owner of Northrop and Johnson Yacht Charters. Johnston agreed to serve as Megayacht News’ eyes and ears during the show, and what she has to say about the coming summer season is encouraging. Here’s her report:
The number of yachts that are actually in the show is based on the number that can fit at the available dockage. Again, this year, several owners were disappointed, as a few yachts were left on the waiting list. I think in these economic times, everyone is pleased to see that owners are still interested in having their yachts offered for charter, and that this show is as large as ever, and once again over-subscribed.

Boating / Yachting - E15 fuel is too high mix for Marine Engines

| Tell EPA to Deny Waiver Petition to Allow E15 EPA Should Not Allow Increased Ethanol Blends |
|
On March 6, 2009, a new pro-ethanol lobbying organization called Growth Energy and 54 ethanol manufacturers formally requested that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) increase ethanol blend levels in gasoline up to 15 percent (E15). As is required by law, EPA on April 21 published a Notice for Comment in the Federal Register, beginning a 30-day public comment period.
NMMA needs your help.
Ethanol Advocates are mobilizing their forces to submit 20,000 favorable comments to EPA requesting that the Agency grant a waiver for E15.
Let’s beat them at their own game. There are 18 million boats currently in operation in the U.S., and none of them has been designed, certified or warrantied to run on anything above E10, the current maximum legal blend level. Boaters know very well that increased ethanol blends will cause performance problems with their boats and engines, increase maintenance costs, potentially pose safety risks and increase air pollution. E15 will also void manufacturer warranties.
And yet, neither EPA nor any other federal agency has done a single test on the impacts of E15 on marine engines, fuel systems, or components. We ask you to support a science first approach and urge EPA to deny the ethanol industry’s E15 waiver request unless and until independent and comprehensive scientific testing is completed on a full range of marine engines and other products.
Scroll down to quickly and easily submit Comments to EPA. The deadline for comments is May 21, 2009.

IEC.ORG InfoVision Award - Ericsson W3x (see: W30 and W35)

InfoVision Awards
Category 5: Broadband Appliances, Devices, and Home Networking
Ericsson for Ericsson W3x Fixed Wireless Terminal for Full Service Broadband using HSPA
Ericsson’s Fixed Wireless Terminal (FWT) provides broadband, voice, fax, shared printing, and shared mass-storage-device functionality over wireless technology to both residential and enterprise markets.
Ericsson’s W3x solution is both unique and innovative in its fully featured telephony service of carrier-grade, best-in-class antenna performance and remote management capability. Remote management allows the operator to decrease time to market and lower OPEX through automated remote software and configuration updates.
The Ericsson W3x FWT offers operators practically unlimited possibilities to provide new services to existing customers, acquire new customers, and open up new geographical areas of business through the provision of mobile broadband, voice, and fax communications.
The device offers a flexible, mobile solution for immediate voice, fax, and broadband services to end customers. The W3x Series FWT enables HSPA of 7.2 Mbps downlink and 2.0 Mbps uplink for multiple simultaneous users via the wired or inbuilt wireless connections.
The W3x Series FWT operates anywhere within the HSPA radio network coverage, offering many rural and remote communities the ability to have a city-like broadband experience at an equivalent price for the first time. For many countries with limited or no fixed infrastructure, fixed wireless access over 3G/HSPA is expected to prove to be the ultimate telecommunications solution. Millions of users, who previously only had limited communication possibilities, will be able to enjoy broadband Internet access and voice communication.

Ericsson W25 Price Change
8. May 2009 by admin.
There has been a change in the price of the Ericsson W25. Thanks to all of you that took advantage of March and April sales that I’ve had. I have been trying to hold the cost low a little longer, but I just got word from distribution that the price (my cost) has gone up. So I’ve adjusted my online showing prices for that.
