ASMT Occassional Bulletin: Fun with your Internet / Google

Happy Summer everybody … here’s some fun things to do with your Internet connection and sometimes impress your friends. These tricks or treats work on either Mac or PC - so it doesn’t matter.

1.) Here’s a trick where you can fool your friends into thinking that you have Dark Magic and can make the “O”’s in the middle of “Google” disappear.

Keep a shortcut to: http://darkartsmedia.com/google.html in your Favorites. Click on that and tell your friends you are going to Google.com to search for something. Remember slight of hand or misdirection are a magicians friends. So if you talk to them more while doing this and distract them a little more - it has a better chance of success. A true Geek will figure out that you didn’t really go to Google.com

Click twice on the white area of the (supposed) google web page. This is a slight of hand. Your friends will not notice that you did this - probably because you had your hand on the mouse all along.

After clicking twice … reach up and rub two fingers (or 1 if you have FAT FINGERS) across the “O”’s in Google - while chanting / saying “OOOGle” … “OOOGLE” … “OOOGLE”. You probably won’t have time to say it that many times.

The “O O”’s of Google will dissapear. Like Magic!!!!!!!!!

2.) Gothic Google …

Go to search box and type in “google gothic” and click on “I’m feeling lucky”. Show that one to your kids. They might enjoy it.

3.) BSD Google (noone appreciates the old BSD - Berkely Unix right?)

Go to the search box and type in “google bsd” and click on “I’m feeling lucky”. I think Google themselves have something to do with this one. It’s actually a google.com supplied page. The Little Devil is a BSD symbol for some distributions of the Operating System. There’s a Unix’ism that I understand so I will explain. A program that runs all the time (like a SERVICE in Windows) is called a “Daemon” in Unix. A web server is an “httpd daemon”. It’s a play on the word “Demon”. Not quite a Demon, but very persistent.

4.) Elmer Fudd …

Go to search box and type in “ewmew fudd” and click on “I’m feeling lucky”. That’s the way Elmer Fudd talks. You know thats right :-) Notice the Elmer Fudd’ish things about the resulting page. This is also a Google.com actual supported page. So I guess they like Elmer Fudd as well.

5.) Google in Pig Latin … what kid wouldn’t love that????

Go to search box and type in “xx- pig latin” and click on “I’m feeling lucky”. Do not forget the SPACE between “xx-” and the words “pig latin” and again just click the “I’m feeling lucky” button. Or I should say … the “I’mway Eelingfay Uckylay” button. That’s a REAL google.com supported Pig Latin (Igpay Atinlay) page.

YOU THINK I”M KIDDING.

6.) Are you are true blue HACKER? Like a Computer Hacker? A Haxor???

Go to search box and type in “xx- haxor” and click on “I’m feeling lucky”. Remember the space after the xx- thing. Yep a REAL google.com page as well. Who woulda though huh????

7.) Life the Universe and Everything …

Go to search box and type in “the answer to life, the universe, and everything” and then (carefull now…) click the SEARCH button.

Now because this is a normal search, and not I’m Feeling Lucky, there will be results. Those might be interesting too. BUT…

Notice the words by the Calculator. (Google has a calculator capability built-in). So we are all worth 42. Something in that????

And I save the best for last. Tell all of your friends, co-workers, and family to search for:

8.) Alan Spicer

Go to search box and type in “Alan Spicer” and click on “I’m feeling lucky”.

Ask me how hard that was to do? It took years of part time hard work :-) Try that with YOUR NAME?

* If anybody needs anything please give me a shout. You’ve been a GREAT audience. We’ll be here all week. Thanks.
