ARRL SSB HF Radio Contest

A March Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) Single Sideband (SSB) Contest, described on this page: http://www.radio-sport.net/arrlssb10_pre.htm is really heating up the airwaves. Even giving the commercial shortwave radio stations a run for their money. Contacts to all over are occurring. 40 meters (7 Mhz band) has been hopping all day and night. As night fell on the east coast of the US 75/80 meters was buzzing as well with contest stations. You really get to see how congested the ham bands can get, when such a contest is going on.

The ARRL DX SSB Contest runs 48 hours from 0000z March 6 to 2400z March 7.

Video #2 of some of the SSB Radio Contesting at KA4UDX

Alan Spicer, KA4UDX, has been participating a bit in this contesting. I’ve worked Spain, St. Maarten, Turks and Caicos Island, Hawaii, and more since yesterday. It’s a good time to make some DX contacts. It’s also very good for your geography knowledge of the world. I recorded a video … hopefully it’s not too long for Youtube. It takes a long time to upload a 10 minute video which is 100’s of megabytes. Note the March totals below, most of that was in the SSB contesting contacts.
