Gordon West, as many will know, is a well known author of study guides not only for Ham Radio, but also for Commercial Licenses such as GROL – General Radio Telephone Operators License – and holds classes all over… Gordon also has a word in on Marine SSB Radio installations and Best Practices – if you search Google.com or your favorite search engine.

There is an Amateur Radio (Ham Radio) Net (a group that meets regularly on a certain radio frequency) – The Gordon West WB6NOA Net – on 7250 Khz (7.250 Mhz) LSB (Lower Side Band) Monday through Friday at 8:30am to around 9:15am Pacific Time. That would be 11:30am for those of us on East Coast of the U.S.
This net is rebroadcasted on a special program, CQ100 (available at qsonet.com) that creates a Virtual Amateur Radio System. This program requires a valid Amateur Radio License in your local country – whereever that may be. It does not enforce rules for frequency use by class of license, which allows those with a Technician US License to operate on “Virtual Frequencies” within CQ100 – that they would otherwise not be allowed to operate on regular HF/SSB Radio Equipment. It also allows rebroadcasting of *real* HF transmissions such as the Gordon West Net. If the person doing the rebroadcasting will allow and assist it can also be used to rebroadcast your outbound transmissions in order to check into a frequency / net that you wouldn’t otherwise be able to check into. In my case, it is difficult, in Southeast Florida, to hear and to be heard by the Gordon West Net on 7250 Khz out in California. The propagation on 40 meters was already bad and got worse due to the recent time change.
Anyway a gentleman by the name of Red, W6ALC has been nice enough to rebroadcast the Gordon West Net over the CQ100 program. CQ100 is a Voice over IP type of application that uses your sound card, speakers, and microphone, to Simulate (Create a Virtual) the Airwaves encountered on real HF radio. Anyway today Red rebroadcasted the audio for the Gordon West Net over the same (virtual) frequency on CQ100. He also was nice enough to rebroadcast me to allow me to check in to the west coast net. So if you are a ham radio licensee, of any class of license, you might consider trying CQ100 and listening in on the Gordon West Net on there. Ask Red which days he actually rebroadcasts it as I don’t think he normally does all 5 days of it.
