(almost?) Half-Way Around the World on Amateur Radio - VK4LJ - Australia
2. May 2012 by admin.
Amateur Radio Contact - KA4UDX <-> VK4LJ (also VK4LMB) on 20 Meters - Australia, New Zealand, Africa Net on 14.183 Mhz
* I haven’t confirmed his exact location … on QRZ.COm VK4LJ shows the distance as:
Bearing
266.9° W (from KA4UDX)
Distance 10343.3 mi (16645.9 km)
* But his mailing address on QRZ.COM shows Queensland, Australia (QLD) - which in my Google Earth plot puts it as around 9,180 miles.
* VK4LMB is a few hundred miles north and a little west of VK4LJ mailing address location and around 9,277 miles from me here in South Florida, USA.

VK4LJ-Distance-Google-Earth
VK4LMB-Google-Earth
* P.S. You can search these guys on QRZ.COM by their ham radio call sign and see the same tabs for Biography and Detail as I see. I simply plot their location (as best available) on Google Earth and use the “Ruler” tool to measure the direction and distance. As you can see in one of the above screen shot images - it pretty much looks like Half-Way around the world. If they were in the middle of Australia or further west it would truly be half-way around the world. This is a pretty darned good haul for radio waves
Pretty good propagation to AU but not so good to elsewhere … everyone else on that net is for the most part in the noise level.

Re: Announcing CradlePoint COR: Now with 4G LTE (+ Alan’s note to Cradlepoint about Marine Market)
30. April 2012 by admin.
Every company in cellular devices talks “Mobile to Mobile” when they really only intend on putting them in buildings … I’m in a truly mobile market, marine. (oops! You meant machine-to-machine.)
If you added a phone jack (analog RJ-11) to this thing you’d be talking!!! not only as a catch phrase but boats / yachts could TALK as in voice phone calls. It’s a standard to have a PBX on most yachts. So we’ve deployed Ericsson gear which has the voice phone jack. But Ericsson are being a PITA about their new 4G thing and are only letting a Rural Carrier “Alliance” have it. So we’re stuck still selling a 3G+ Ericsson device that has the phone jack I’m talking about.
Now if you could do the phone jack and also make a model for the AT&T / GSM / UMTS / 4G LTE side of the equation … you would be Just Golden.

Need more Members for Marine 4G LTE Alliance … pass this on to everyone with a SY or MY (Yacht / Boat)
27. April 2012 by admin.
http://blog.marinetelecom.net/the-marine-4g-lte-alliance/
Please everyone that owns a marine vessel big enough to have a Cellular Antenna … everyone Captain, Engineer, or Crew …
Please look at the Marine 4G LET Alliance Page (link above) and contact me to join. The cost is FREE. We just need members to show our numbers to Ericsson and other Cellular manufactures. We’d like to be able to get 4G LTE with fall back to GSM (HSPA+, UMTS) with Cellular Internet Data and Analog Phone Ports for PBX and Analog phone systems interconnect to the Cellular voice services. There is Ericsson hardware being made - but so far they are not letting it be available to the Marine Market … or any market besides a Rural Cellular Alliance organization.
Marine Electronics (and other) Blogs please “blog” about this. Marine web sites with articles … please “article” about this.

Dear Indian Government, Your Cowardice and Indifference Toward the Crew of MV Iceberg I is Noted [VIDEO]
27. April 2012 by admin.
http://gcaptain.com/indian-government-shows-extreme/?45371
Sorry India, but it’s been over two years and your citizens are still sitting in a Somali hell hole for no good reason. Leaving them to perish is NOT an option.
Since March 2010, the Indian and Yemeni crew of the hijacked vessel MV Iceberg I has sat languishing under horrific conditions in Somalia, largely forgotten by everyone except their families, and at least one crewmember has committed suicide.
The Indian government has responded with complete inaction.
In a report today by Ashutosh Kumar from DNA News Agency, Dadasaheb Jadhav, 50, father of Swapnil comments, “Do you think anyone in the government cares about what happens to my son?”
Swapnil is one of the 13 Indians still held hostage by Somali captors. Jadhav stares blankly at a poster of a ship and waits for a call that has not come for two years.
The report continues:

Could the Zimmerman Bloody Head iPhone 4S photo have been modified? Yes. Easily? No. Not the for the average non-technical iPhone user. Video an explanation of how it could be modified and uploaded back to the iPhone by: Alan Spicer.
And if the person taking the picture lives right there … why would they need to modify the picrture?

ABC News breaks Bloody Zimmerman Head Photo … State Attorney Investigator - no evidence of who started the fight
21. April 2012 by admin.
Also Zimmerman says “I’m Sorry” to the family in the Bond Hearing … attorney for the Martin Family says it was not a genuine apology but was just a show to get the release on bail accomplished. Zimmerman may have been a little surprised at the snap cross examination and couldn’t remember if he had said he was sorry before during police interrogations. His confusion is construed by some online as meaning that he is lieing. Anyway … video below.
In other news, on this video, Zimmermans attorney gets the State Attorneys Office Investigator on the stand and asks him if he knows who started the fight. “No”. Do they have evidence of who started the fight? No.
ABC Video from: http://abcnews.go.com/US/george-zimmerman-case-exclusive-photo-shows-bloodied-back/story?id=16177849
* Alan Spicer says: Holy Shhhhh. I thought no one thought of taking pictures of Zimmerman showing his injuries the night of the incident. The police should have done that. The paramedics should have done that. They both should have done that. I’ve said online that in domestic disputes they take pictures of the injured persons. This was a self defense shooting or a manslaughter … and there were detectives that were called. No one took pictures of the shooter? Anyway I have also read elsewhere that the photographer (cell phone snap shot) was the same witness that says he saw Trayvon on top of Zimmerman. Wow! He took a picture of Zimmermans head all bloody. Good man. (* edit: or woman? and I could be wrong about who it is that gave the photo to ABC …
The photo was reportedly taken with an iPhone by an unnamed person who said they heard the fight, but did not see it. Zimmerman told the photographer to call his wife, and when asked what to say, responded, “Man, just tell her I shot someone.”
In a statement, Martin family attorney Benjamin Crump said, “How bad could it have been if they didn’t take him to the hospital [and] didn’t stitch him up. The special prosecutor has seen all the evidence and still believes George Zimmerman murdered Trayvon Martin.”

(Florida) Task force to consider ’stand your ground’ after Trayvon Martin death
20. April 2012 by admin.
http://www.cnn.com/2012/04/19/justice/florida-stand-your-ground/
CNN Video for Task force to look into Florida Law Chapter 776 (self defense - including ’stand your ground’)
(CNN) — Florida authorities have picked 17 people to tackle a heated question brought on by the killing of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin: whether the state’s “stand your ground law” should be changed.
The task force, whose membership was announced Thursday, will hear impassioned arguments and testimony from residents at public meetings across the state. Its first meeting is set for May 1 in Tallahassee.
“We’re not walking into this with any preconceived notions,” Gov. Rick Scott said at a news conference. If there are “logical changes to be made,” he said, the task force “will provide those.”
It will pass along recommendations to the governor and the Legislature.
The group will review Florida Statute Chapter 776, which deals with justifiable use of force, including the stand your ground provision.
