My Livewire Service Selector / Access Controller FB-10 page is located here: http://www.marinetelecom.net/Livewire_Service_Selector/
The Livewire Service Selector has been replaced by the Livewire Access Controller FB-10 and it comes in 3 different models:
Access Controller FB-10
Access Controller FB-10 Pro
Access Controller FB-10 Pro – Rack Mount
* The Livewire Access Controller FB-10 has a capability that many newer Internet Controllers do not have – the ability to control and manage Inmarsat Fleet 55 and 77 connections which have two services called HSD – High Speed Data and MPDS – Mobile Packet Data Service. The first one is an ISDN digital telephone connection, something that didn’t get widespread use in the U.S.but did elsewhere in the world. The second one is a Serial Port connection like the old style Telephone Modems used. Both connections were difficult to connect to a computer network (I know from having done them with Cisco Routers) and share onboard a yacht. I have seen yachts with the MPDS connected directly to a Desktop Computer and used only on that computer. I have seen the the ISDN connection connected to ISDN modems such as the Eicon Diva LAN Modem … in order to use that connection. The Livewire Access Controller (and the Service Selector before it) has the capability built in (ISDN Modem, Serial connection capability, sharing to the onboard network capability) to use these connections.
The Access Controller FB-10 also has the capability to handle newer “WAN” Ethernet connections such as those used by VSAT satellite systems, WiFi systems, and Cellular Internet systems – to name a few. 10 connections altogether. It also has the ability to have profiles set up and limit what class of users can get on. Let’s say you have “Captain”, “Owner”, “Guests”, and “Crew”. You can control who can get on the active connection. Let’s say you are using a high cost connection such as Fleet 55 or 77 and only want the captain or owner to use it. You may have another (e.g. Fleet Broadband) satellite connection that you only use when necessary … and you want all the cost and use only to go at important tasks at hand. You can do with with the FB-10. It also has integrated Fleet Broadband Support.
I’m not giving you all of the capabilities of the FB-10 in my own words … so here are some words from the brochure:
The Access Controller is designed to manage up to 10 different communications systems via a simple Graphical User Interface (GUI) located on a single PC or multiple PC’s anywhere on the same network around the vessel.
With an ever increasing range of off-vessel internet connections offering a wide variety of cost/speed benefits, the ability to switch between services has never been more important. With the Livewire Connections Access Controller FB-10 product range you can take control of your WAN connections as well as efficiently managing your LAN traffic. Whether you run a commercial ship or a luxury yacht, the FB-10 can save you both time and money.
