You can buy some of the products sold by ASMT elsewhere … but when you tell them, if you tell them, that you are putting it on a yacht or other marine vessel their expertise will come to an end. They typically just want to sell you the router with the little rubber antennas for placement in a home or a small business. We have even seen large manufacturers with “mobile broadband router” and the only trees they could see were placing them in homes or small offices. They never even said car or truck or communications trailer. Their mobile broadband was a house or fixed business with a good window for the rubber antennas to peek out of. ASMT is better than that …
Alan Spicer Marine Telecom makes solutions. and doesn’t just sell products as a general rule. For marine vessels it’s often difficult to sell just products because these systems need to be installed with coax cables and top side antennas. as well as being integrated with an onboard network (or create one) below decks inside the vessel.
ASMT has been making “Marine Pack” packages for many years to include the things that are needed for a full installation on a sail or motor yacht (and other marine vessels.)
Generally a quote is made based on a pre-sales consultation to determine what you want to do and therefore what is needed to make it a whole system for that single Internet source purpose, or for multiple Internet sources purposes.
Many of the newer routers, and there a multiple sizes to choose from, have much more than the basic Internet Connection capability. Many them can be a whole boat router on a marine vessel. These routers have multiple Internet source capability and provide automatic fail-over (or manual control) and load balancing (or manual single Internet – switchable) in addition to network firewall and cloud management available.
We have seen Internet control and management routers from our vendors as well as products from other vendors and can work with them as a new package or already existing if you have them already.
So there’s a lot to consider from possibly multiple Internet sources from the antennas of 4G LTE and WiFi to the inside Master Router … to the Wireless Onboard / Inside. It’s a matter of what you already have and how much you want me quote as a solution.
