Why would you buy a Single Modem router vs Why would you buy a Dual Modem Router?
If you stay on one 4G provider all of the time and switch sim cards when you leave the country – that’s a Single Modem Router. While it can Fail Over (more slowly than Dual Modem Router) it cannot Load Balance two 4G providers. Single modem routers have 2 sim capability. Dual Modem Routers have 2 modems with 2 sim capability.
If you router does not have removable modems it’s a usually a Single Modem Router. If it, like AER-2100 and AER-3100 has removable modems it’s a Dual Modem Router. Single Modem Router can load balance 1 wired Internet Connection and 1 (the Built-In) 4G LTE connection. Dual Modem Router can load balance 2 4G LTE and several wired Internet connections. Check the number of Wired Connections needed when selecting a Router. AER-2100 has 4 LAN and 1 WAN port. AER-3100 has 12 LAN and 1 WAN. WAN is Internet. On both of those models the LAN ports can be switched to be WAN/Internet ports.
COR IBR-1100 routers have 2 LAN and 1 WAN/Internet. They are switchable LAN / WAN. So you could have 2 WAN/Internet and 1 LAN (IBR-900 1 LAN and 1 WAN.)
COR IBR-1100 Series Dual Sim but not Dual Modem
COR IBR-1100 – 2 LAN and 1 WAN – switchable LAN/WAN ports
**** COR IBR-1100 Series can become Dual Modem with the Dual Modem Dock and an MC-400 Series Modem.
COR IBR-900 – (compare IBR-1100) only 1 LAN and 1 WAN ports – switchable … but if you switch the only LAN port to WAN/Internet you run out of LAN ports. In the WiFI model is does have WAVE-2 Gigabit WiFi. It is a Single Modem – Dual Sim Card Router. The Sim Card slots are on the front, compared to COR IBR-1100 series where they are on the bottom behind 4 screws and a door.
**** COR-IBR-900 Series can be Dual Modem capable with the Extensibility Dock and an MC-400 Series Modem. This also adds 2 Ethernet Ports and other capabilities.
AER-3100 – Dual Modem each with Dual Sim Card.
AER-3100 showing 12 LAN ports and 1 WAN port (also 1 console port) – LAN ports with PoE power for devices. Ethernet ports Switchable between LAN and WAN/Internet.
MC400 Modem – Dual Sim Card – Removable / Swappable in AER-2100 and AER-3100 Routers.
AER-1600 you would think would be a less-expensive Dual Modem Router, but it is limited in which versions come with an Embedded Modem and can take a 2nd modem. It seems to be limited to the older (before LP6) embedded modems. So you couldn’t have an LP6 with an LP6 second modem, It does have 4 LAN and 1 WAN port – no doubt switchable to WAN / Internet on the 4 LAN ports.
LPE and LP4 models include an embedded modem and a slot to add an MC400 modem
- LP6 and LP3 models include a bundled MC400 modem and do not include an embedded modem
- AER1600/AER1650 only include a slot for an MC400 modem and do not include an embedded modem
